Get the Lead Out offers low-cost loans that help homeowners remove hazardous lead paint from their properties, thus reducing the potential for lead poisoning among children. Financing limits depend on the property type: $30,000 for single-family homes, $35,000 for two-family homes, $40,000 for three-family homes, and $45,000 for four-family homes.

Owner-Occupants: 0% Deferred Interest Rate Loans
Income eligible families who owner-occupy a 1-4 family home in which a child under the age of six resides as a primary residence. No closing costs and flexible underwriting guidelines.
Owner-occupants wishing to delead their homes for preventative reasons may qualify for a deferred loan with a 0% interest rate. Loan terms are five to 15 years; no closing costs and borrower must meet standard underwriting guidelines to qualify.
Nonprofit Organizations: 0% Amortizing Loans
Nonprofit organizations who rent to income-eligible tenants may qualify for a 0% interest rate, fully amortizing loan. Loan terms are five to 15 years, depending loan amount and borrower qualifications.
Investor-Owners: 3% Amortizing Loans
Investor-owners who rent to income-eligible tenants may qualify for a 3% interest rate, fully amortizing loan. Loan terms are five to 15 years and borrower must meet standard underwriting guidelines to qualify.
This program is made possible through a partnership between MassHousing, the Department of Public Health and the Department of Housing and Community Development. Loans are originated by MassHousing- and DHCD-approved local rehabilitation agencies, and are underwritten and approved by MassHousing-approved rehabilitation agencies and MassHousing-approved lenders.
